Rainbow Valley Farm is now closed for winter.Re-opening 1 November 2010.Next Summer’s programme will be posted in September 2010.Last summer’s programme included:Pruning/Grafting: Saturday 22 May 2009, 9 am—5 pm with Murray Jones, master pruner & grafter with 30 years experience in the orchard and nursery industry.
In this workshop Murray will cover: fruit tree selection, rootstock choice, siting/spacing & planting, pollination, pest control & companion planting, training systems & techniques, form pruning, shaping & selection of appropriate wood for fruiting, summer pruning, frame working older trees for easy access & improved production, grafting, selection of wood & storage, techniques for nursery production & top working older trees, general after-care & maintenance of trees. Two Permaculture Design Courses will be held on Rainbow Valley Farm in summer 2010. This is the original two week design course - graduates will be awarded a certificate from Bill Mollison’s Permaculture Institute in Australia.
5—20 February 2010: Lead Tutor: Darren Doherty. Darren is an Australian who has been teaching permaculture for 15 years in Australia, New Zealand, United States, Argentina, Spain and Vietnam. He is an experienced and sought after designer with more than 1,200 designs to his name. Guest tutors Trish Allen & others.
Price: $1,500 to $2,060 depending on accommodation needs. We are offering a range of options on or off Rainbow Valley Farm.

Farm Tours and Workshops
Farm Tour: Sunday 31 January 2010, 2 pm
Tours start at 2 pm and last approx. 3 hours. The philosophy behind the work at Rainbow Valley Farm is explained and examples are pointed out. Topics covered include: Sustainability — Permaculture — Edible Landscapes — Organic Food Production— Compost Toilets — Energy Efficient & Non-toxic Houses — Zero Waste.
Price: $15 per person, Bookings essential.
Workshops
Organic Weed Control: Sunday 25 April 2010, 9 am—5 pm with Nelson Lebo. Nelson is an award-winning environmental educator with 18 years teaching experience, organic gardener, and green builder.
Weed management is the top challenge to both large-scale organic farming and the home gardener. Many home gardeners abandon their vegetable patches because they fall behind on weeding and then get overwhelmed. Planning a garden around weed control may not be exciting, but the result can save of hours of drudgery.
Price: $120, includes morning tea. Bookings essential.
